The renowned Danish-German soprano Dénise Beck graduated from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in 2009, followed by postgraduate soloist studies at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, completing her degree in 2011. She made her official debut at the Volksoper Wien in 2009, launching an international career that has brought her to prestigious venues worldwide. Her engagements include performances at the Bregenzer Festspiele, Salzburger Landestheater, the Berlin State Opera, the Royal Danish Opera, Tokyo Opera City, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Royal Swedish Opera, the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet, and the Teatro Nacional Cláudio Santoro in Brasília.
Celebrated for her versatile vocal capabilities, Dénise possesses a luminous, warm timbre paired with agile coloratura technique. Her extensive repertoire spans the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and avant-garde eras. Notable roles include Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), and Leonora (Maskerade). In the 2022/23 season, she achieved critical acclaim at Norrlandsoperan in Sweden by performing all four heroine roles – Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta, and Stella – in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. Most recently, in 2025, she made her highly anticipated role debut as the title character in Puccini’s Tosca at Folkoperan in Stockholm.
On the concert and recital stage, her signature repertoire includes Alban Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder, Richard Strauss’s Opus 10 and Vier Lieder (Opus 27), Mahler’s Symphonies No. 2 and 4, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.
Dénise is also a passionate champion of Danish opera and art song, dedicated to bringing both celebrated masterpieces and forgotten gems to light. Her discography with the Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra features definitive recordings of Poul Schierbeck’s Fête Galante, Carl Nielsen’s Maskerade, and C.F.E. Hornemann’s Aladdin. In addition to recording Nielsen’s vocal works and Schierbeck’s rarer lieder, she is currently developing a project dedicated to the undiscovered songs of Leopold van der Pals, collaborating closely with the composer’s great-grandson, Tobias van der Pals.
Throughout her career, she has collaborated with distinguished conductors such as Jordi Savall, Michael Schönwandt, Thomas Søndergaard, Dmitri Jurowski, Christian Øland, Zoi Tsokanu, and Henrik Schaefer. She has worked under the vision of acclaimed directors including Kasper Holten, David Pountney, Keith Warner, and the creative duo Bogdan Szyber and Carina Reich.
In 2021, Dénise Beck was knighted by Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, receiving the Order of the Dannebrog.
