Hanne Marit Mordal Iversen is a young, distinguished Norwegian soprano recognized for her technical versatility and compelling interpretations across opera, art song, and early and contemporary music. Based in Oslo, she has established herself as a prominent figure in the Nordic vocal scene through her work as a soloist and as a core member of several prestigious ensembles.
Education and Early Career
Iversen received her professional training at NTNU Music Department in Trondheim, the Norwegian Academy of Music and Hochschule für Musik und Theater München. Her education provided a strong foundation in the classical tradition, while her natural curiosity led her toward the complexities of contemporary vocal literature.
Ensemble Work
In 2023, Iversen was appointed as a permanent member of the world-renowned Norwegian Soloists’ Choir (Det Norske Solistkor). She also plays a vital role in kehlkopfkollektiv, a Swiss-Norwegian interdisciplinary ensemble that shines in between contemporary music and physical theatre. Additionally, she is a regular member of the Margaretha Consort and a co-founder of early music Frolic quintet, amongst several others.
International Recognition
Her career is marked by numerous international accolades, particularly in collaboration with pianist Revaz Abramia. The duo has achieved significant success, winning the “Prix de Lied” at the Lili and Nadia Boulanger Competition in Paris (2023) and First Prize at the Sibelius Singing Competition (2025). Her international reach was further cemented in 2025 when she won the Gold Prize at the K-Gagok Superstar competition in Seoul, South Korea, for her performance of Korean art song.
Artistic Profile and Collaborations
Iversen is known for her close collaboration with contemporary composers, most notably Ragnar Söderlind, whose works she premieres. Her dedication to his repertoire will culminate in a dedicated album release in late 2026. Her concert career has seen her perform at major venues such as Wigmore Hall, Grieg Hall, Elbphilharmonien, Lotte Hall, Canadian Opera Company, the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet and Baroniet Rosendal, often sharing the stage with celebrated artists like Leif Ove Andsnes, Grete Pedersen, Sumi Jo, Christian Eggen og Lise Davidsen.
She has been appointed as the Festival Artist for the 2026 Valdres Sommersymfoni, reflecting her standing as one of Norway’s most exciting vocal talents.
