Kine Sandtrø

Soprano

Kine Sandtrø is a young Norwegian soprano from Stjørdal who ended her studies with a master’s degree from Malmö Opera Academy and a bachelor’s degree in Opera from the Stockholm University of the Arts. In addition, Kine has a bachelor’s degree in classical singing from Barrat Due Musikkinstitutt in Oslo.

Kine sang Liú in “Turandot” at Malmö Opera in spring 2024 and in the summer of 2023, Kine sang the title role in “Tosca” 23 times (!) – a tour in Scania produced by Skånska Operan. She also did a last-minute and highly praised one-performance jump in from the side, as the title role in “Alcina” at Confidencen, Stockholm in the summer of 2024 (Peter Spissky).

In the season 2022/23, Kine sang the role of Hedvig in the newly written opera “Snösystern”” at Malmö Opera with great acclaim, a role that she did again at Opera Nordfjord in Norway and again in Malmö in 2024.

In the 2021-22 season, as a member of the Malmö Opera Academy, she was engaged at Malmö Opera for the role of Josefina in Fjellström’s opera «Det går an». She then appeared as Suor Genovieffa in «Suor Angelica» and had to jump into the title role of Suor Angelica with a few hours’ notice. She also appeared in the baroque opera “Det stora oväsendet”, all at Malmö Opera, Sweden.

In the 2020-21 season Kine sang Barbarina in «The Marriage of Figaro» at the Royal Opera in Stockholm as student at the Stockholm Academy of the Arts.

Kine has been a soprano soloist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Court Chapel and Malmö Opera’s orchestra. She has also appeared with romance repertoire together with the pianist Julia Sjöstedt in Canada, the USA, Norway and Sweden.

Kine Sandtrø has been awarded several scholarships, among them the Jenny Lind scholarship (2018) and the Jenny Lind Society’s prize (2018).
