Berit Norbakken, soprano, is a busy bee at the 21st International Church Music Festival in Oslo this year. The award-winning Icelandic contemporary composer Hugi Guðmundsson has written a full-length church musical work on commission from Hallgrimskirkja Friends of the Arts Society in Reykjavik and the Oslo International Church Music Festival. The oratorio is entitled The Gospel of Mary and has its world premiere in Oslo in a collaboration between Oslo Sinfonietta and Icelandic Schola Cantorum, conducted by Hörður Áskelsson. Hugi Guðmundsson has written the work especially for Berit Norbakken.
Handel’s oratorio “La Resurrezione” (The Resurrection) is performed at the closing concert by Accademia Bizantina with Berit as Maddalena under the direction of Ottavio Dantone.
In between Berit sings Bach’s cantata nr 1, “Wie schön leuchtet der Morgenstern” with Oslo Cathedral Choir and conductor Vivianne Sydnes at the Festival High Mass in Oslo Cathedral.
