Berit Norbakken records rare Stravinsky with Capella Amsterdam

In late November, Berit is recording and performing Stravinsky’s “Threni: id est Lamentationes Jeremiae Prophetae”, or simply “Threni” with Daniel Reuss and Capella Amsterdam. It’s a not often performed and an even rarer recorded cantata, considered “the most ambitious and structurally the most complex of all his religious compositions”. (Roman Vlad, Stravinsky, third edition, translated from the Italian by Frederick Fuller (New York: Oxford University Press, 1978)).

She will also record “Elegy for JFK” at the same time. It’s a twelve-tone serial composition and the text, in four haiku stanzas each of 17 syllables, was written at Stravinsky’s request by W. H. Auden in memory of assassinated President John F. Kennedy.

Two concerts in Groningen and at Muziekgebouw awaits in Amsterdam, 29 and 30 November.
