Melis Jaatinen – mezzo-soprano

Melis Jaatinen was a buzz and a finalist at The Wigmore Hall Singing Competition 2013 in London, 30 August to 3 September.

In spring 2014 Melis made her Norwegian opera debut in the Kverndokk opera ”Påske”, touring in Norway. Production: AdOpera.

Summer 2014 Melis participated in Savonlinna Opera Festival as Mercedes in ”Carmen”.

Later in 2014, Melis sang Cherubino at The Finnish National Opera (29/8-26/9) and made her debut as Berta in ”Il barbiere di Siviglia” at the Norwegian National Opera, December until February 2015, 13 performances.

Melis held a sold out recital at The Norwegian Opera together with pianist Juho Alakärppä in January. Music by Sibelius, Mahler and more. In April (Good Friday) she had another recital at the main stage in the same opera house.

She recently received €12 000 from the Finnish Cultural Foundation for artistic work and development. Congratulations!

Melis is part of the Islandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s opera project ”_UR”, that had its premiere at The Trier Opera and later The ULTIMA festival in Oslo in September 2015 and at festivals in Switzerland, Iceland and Greenland after that.
